  • After the so-called Livonian wars of 1558-1580 Livonian Confederation ceased to exist and was partitioned between Sweden, Denmark and Lithuania.

  • Livonia was a rlatively big province that included modern northern Latvia and southern Estonia. It esxisted from 1202 until 1918. In late 1918 partitioned beween newly-formed Latvia and Estonia.

    In 1202-1570 together with Courland and nothern Estonia formed the so-called Livonian Confederation - a German-dominated state that included all the territories of modern Estonia and Latvia, plus some smaller chunks of land.
