  • who plays first?

  • @BlueBlueFeelin I was always under the impression that it was Duane until about 1:45 or so

  • They have incorporated an awesome riff from Jimi Hendrix into this.

  • @snakeweirdo which one is that??

  • if you listen closely it sounds a lot like Donovan- There is a mountain

  • @123tomot321 thats what it is based on

  • I'll be damned if this isn't some of the most righteous music that's ever been created on this earth.

  • good to see the is kind of music lives on through Derek Trucks

  • @MortimerYoung boogie jamming always sounds epic. you should listen Endless Boogie. these guys made boogie improvising their meaning of life ;)

  • Duane plays first on this clip. Guaranteed. Those fast riffs chopped together by the second soloist are stock Dickey Betts stuff.

  • This is a great jam, for sure, but the Eat A Peach version is the definitive Mountain Jam, IMO. It was recorded during the 3/12-13/71 Fillmore East recording sessions.

  • I would eat the hairy lollipop you find in your couch to be able to jam with them for one night

  • @bthoma1 Third Stone from the Sun is the song that is the Jimi Hendrix Riff

  • I just picked up on the altered Fillmore east live album! It is funny as hell!

  • uncasist: Thanks for your comment about Duane and Devon and orchestrated solos. Not sure what that is, except I agree that Devon can be disorganized in parts of his songs. Like you say, riffs, but not a thought-out, put-together whole. You may have put your finger on why he isn't getting more attention and play.

  • @esslar1 Hmm, I just listened to Devon Allman and Honeytribe doing a disjointed version of One Way Out. He plays really good riffs, but I failed to hear him orchestrate a solo the way Duane could and did. Honestly, these days there are 1 million (or is it 2 million) guitarists with stellar technique. It's what you do with that technique that sets you apart as one in a million. Didn't hear it in Devon. You have to care about what you do for starters.

  • I've never heard Duane with wah wah; he gave it short shrift-he could have gone on a lot longer with it. Wah wah's love the thick Les Paul sound. I don't hear any Hendrix riff or song here, but I have heard ABB go into this rock fragment before. It's definitely an allusion to some rock ditty.

  • @snakeweirdo I put my age to let the old timers know that there are people of my generation that listen to music like this. Rock is not dead.

  • @123tomot321 That's exactly where it came from.

  • @claptonfan12 You're right, Derek Trucks is excellent, have 3 of his albums. You have probably heard Devon Allman, too (Greg's son), best thing ever since Duane. His band is called Honeytribe (great bass player plus drummer.) I've only been able to listen to him on youtube, cannot find any CDs.

  • the original mountain jam is 33 minutes long :)

  • @l49pizzasondewal Your point is fairly taken about these kids but I suppose it is their way of saying "hey you old bastards - your music rocks compared to our modern crap!"

And this 'sophistication' you speak of is inherent in my friend's son; who at 15 years; has Richie Blackmore, Ginger Baker & Hank 'Hurricane' Carter as his music idols. He plays guitar, drums & sax quite well & claims to having never listened to anything else BUT 60's + 70's material.

So maybe they aren't all bothersome?!

  • best song. appreciate it

  • There's even some Chuck Berry in here! Only person now playing on Duane's level is his nephew Devon.

  • is duane tapping?

  • this jam is badass. they're both sooo goood.

  • @snakeweirdo AGREE. kids who are twelve brag about how theyre sophisticated enough at their young age to like music from the 60's. its a little bothersome.

  • @bthoma1 Riff from Third stone from the sun.

  • @dhz35 not to be rude, but why do we need to know your age?
