A short guide to Britains lack of affordable housing. Why average wages can't buy an average house anymore, & how the Govt keeps it this way.

House prices were due a correction, but despite sub-prime, bank collapses and the recession, prices didn't come crashing down as they should. Our UK Govt is intent on maintaining high prices, whatever the cost. Prudent savers have been hit with low interest rates and quantitative easing, while ill-advised mortgages are protected.

Find out how whether Britain really is running out of land to build on, what led to the sub-prime crisis and whether shared ownership is the answer for cash strapped first time buyers.

  • I live with my wife, children, and my wifes sister, husband and their children. we all work, all in our 30s, 2 have degrees yet we have to share a house. what is Britain coming to?!

  • this video adresses some issues with housing in the UK. For example, it rightly points out that planning constraints inflate prices and increase density. But the video fails to see the importance of planning; in essence intervention is needed because unfettered housing markets fail to provide homes. Indeed, in the US almost 1 in 100 people will be homeless at some point every year. In the UK this is much less, and in part due to planning gain requiring developers to build cheap homes.

  • This video is just vested interest grabage by the STR scum who want to take advantage of other people's misery and buy a cheap house and then sell it at a higher price in the next property boom.

  • All not helped by Gordon Brown's raid on pensions when he was Chancellor, meaning that investment money piled into the buy-to-let sector, which snapped up huge numbers of cheaper properties nationwide and caused both purchase prices and rents to surge. Before that, there was plenty of affordable housing in Northern England... not any more.

  • And Jeremy Clarkson whines about America being cheap? Jiminy Crickets...

  • Agree on all accounts but you have no voice because the people you are talking about control the media, pay the MPs their pocket money and silence whoever eats away their profit. They own the BBC, the ITV and the rest and you can not do anything about it. That is life.
