1.) the big 4 are too good, no way is he gonna crack that

2.) so in order to get into the top 5, he has to take the last spot... meaning he has to be better than ferrer, berdych, tsonga, del potro... all of whom have arguably no real weakness either

When he has Federer at his back in doubles, Stan can do great things. But otherwise, Stan is too mentally brittle to actually break through.

It's all in his head. Fed was able to dig deep when it really counted. Stan just doesn't have the kind of mental resolve to break into the top10 at the moment.
