the courage to be uncomfortable...

I agree, but there's another movie that evokes the same feelings, starring Paul Newman, Sally Field, Wilford Brimley and a host of other notables. It was titled "Absence of Malice." An equall profound movie.

At least you could have uploaded part 2 & 3. Only uploading part 1 is just bad business.

This is one of the best movies ever made. Paul Newman's best role. Sidney Lumet directs. And David Mamet wrote the screenplay. Not one weakness in this movie.

This film is absolutely perfect. There is not one moment in this movie that isn't thoroughly entertaining and riveting. It is an absolute work of art. As viewers, we are satisfied when a film is entertaining and enjoyable, but this film goes beyond that. After you see this movie you feel like you're a richer person for having been exposed to such brilliance. It's like when you see Michelangelo's David or the Sistine Chapel.

These opening scenes are so excruciating and so brilliant. A note-perfect portrait of a time and place and person. Beautiful work, Sidney Lumet and Paul Newman. Rest in peace, and thanks.

I agree. He should have gotten the Oscar. My favorite Paul Newman flick and I like almost all of them.

a BRILLIANT performance by Newman, agree, shouldve one an Oscar, but tough competition that year. RIP Paul, one of the greatest of our time!
Wrote a paper about this film when it was released. Brilliant in every aspect. Ben Kingsley won the Oscar that year for Ghandi. Newman didn't have the luxury of playing an historical figure. He had to create Frank Galvin from what he read on the page. He indeed should have won the Oscar.
