A Canadian National C44-9W leads an extra M337 train to the west along the Freeport subdivision on a gloomy winter day. The tracks pass under the north-south running Leithton sub on the edge of Wayne, Illinois.

This location has room to shoot from the north side only. So a day when the sun is somewhat obscured is helpful. This day was maybe a bit overboard in the obscured sun department. But I thought I'd try for my first video from here anyway.

By the second half of the video, we're looking through some well-dampened lenses from the mist being swirled about.

Thanks to YouTuber Alec for helping to track the train. And for providing the length, which I believe was just under 10,000 feet. His recording of the detector is here: http://youtu.be/1Up-CoJ_Q5U

  • That was a monster train for sure. CN has been having some biggies as of late, especially up on the Waukesha Sub North and Southbound.

  • @jt4136 Hey thanks, JT.

  • @basicbill1 If it met up with an eastbound then that EB was surely U704.It was led by a cowl unit and a GTW GP38-2.I caught it at Villa Park

  • @basicbill1 I wast looking on the east side, sorry about that

  • @RailfanningRulez Not quite sure what you mean. The grade crossing in the going away clip is Powis Road. Google maps shows it. Perhaps you are looking at a different spot. But thanks much for watching.

  • I saw that on google maps, but there wasnt a way to get there... now there is a road, Golle should really update their maps... Nice Catch w/ that ex-IC Bill!! 5*
