Simulation of the collapse of an inflatable tent structure. The simulation takes into account the complex mechanical behavior of inflatable beams. Linear unwrinkled, non-linear wrinkled and collapse behavior are taken into account in both bending and torsion. In this simulation run, wires are connected to the edges of the roof. a single force acts on the intersection of these lines. The force steadily grows larger. The model itself is made using a newly designed inflatables toolkit for MSC ADAMS. this model was made in less than 15 minutes by laying out the nodes and have the toolkit create the inflatable tubes. parameters such as beam radius and internal pressure can easily be changed. The simulation runs at almost real time speeds on a conventional desktop computer.

  • That's seriously interesting! What size model is this and what load is placed on it?

  • Hello,

Thanks for your comment. The model is essentially very small and was built using a toolkit that we've develloped. This took about 15 minutes. The toolkit allows to create inflatable tubular structures by simply the nodes, radii and internal pressure as input. The structure resembles a small tent with a footprint of about 3 by 3 meters. The load is introduced in the intersection of four lines comming from the top corners. The load steadily increases from 0 to about 500 Newtons.

  • very nice!

what kind of toolkit is that? it would be very helpful for my current project.

  • It's a toolkit I made myself for MSC ADAMS

  • I am very interested in this kind of simulation. Please contact me

  • Hello,

This is very interesting indeed. Were you able to compare this simulated behavior to which of an actual inflatable structure of such shape? If so did the results concur?
