Thorpe is definitely the king of freestyle but what Phelps did was not human. Lochte may be the only human even close to capable of doing what Phelps did. I don't think Phelps even came close to what he could truly accomplish in the 200 Fly. Not even close. Unfortuneately, it looks like he has a bad case of retiritis. I think we can stick a fork in Phelps.

Mrdreamer. Maybe thorpie realized now was the time to get out and retire because he knew the french lab tests were coming and they weren't going to be good news for him. It seems a bit strange why he would retire at such an early age and when he's at his peak. How do you know those french tests were faked?

Regarding this whole 'Thorpe vs Phelps: Who is better debate': I don't know much about swimming but I can guarantee Phelps is better at banging chicks HAHAHHAAAA XD
PS I'm Aussie and I have a couple of gay mates I hang with on the weekends but holy shit Ian makes them look and sound like brick layers in comparison!!

Thorpe = Legend , The rest of you have no idea the work done to achieve such standards. And regarding the suit he wore, everyone else had the chance to wear it. It wasn't the new low drag suit. Thorpe's had record's in 200/400/800 and you dare to call him just a middle distance swimmer,make me laugh. Thorpe is the legend of freestyle and michael the legend of Fly!! And thats it.
