This homemade documentary explores the history of one of New England's finest horse racetracks. From its glory days in the 1930s to its broken remains today.
Although I never was able to see the park as it was, I've seen it today in its sad state. It's hard to believe it was once a successful racetrack where famous horses raced. After researching and seeing so many pictures of 'Gansett as it was, it is also hard to believe its been reduced to the broken and shattered pieces it is today.

If more young people had the opportunity to really see, what goes on every
day in the barn area and training times. And,had "hands on" feel for what
jobs hold a future for them. The tracks could bring new life, into the fold.
Instead, they close the doors for good. Many hard working people, lose out.Being on welfare, the community retaliates, town loses its appeal for bringing revenue, families lose hope, crime goes up,addiction and abuse take
control,children witness this.Give up!Joy left.

Out of curiosity...was this a history day project done at a local cable access studio? I never went to this track as a child but I remember what was left of it. It held the Narragansett Flea market in the early 1980's. It was kind of sad seeing that place run down like that...the old scoreboard was still there, only one escalator worked etc. I still miss the flea market (you could get *anything* there) but it always felt like a ghost town.

Yes it is a travesty what has happened to horse racing. Probably is too late to fix everything as they have waited so long and gotten too far behind. Man I miss the days of full tracks, full fields, and great horses sticking around.

Great video. But it's a shame the sport no longer attracts the younger generation and will never. Bad customer service, high takeout, drugged up horses, alot of rundown bankrupt tracks,99% of STAR horses retire right away and expensive food and drink at a place your already spending good money at.
The casinos are the worst as they are there push out the horses. Sad what has happen to the great Sport of Kings.

Great video and thank you! I was born in pawtucket in 1980 and never got the chance to see the track in it's glory. Well done! If I hit powerball the track will be back : )
