Cops don't decide, stay or not stay. Talking with them is useless. Make friends--given the order, they'll still beat the shit our of you, steal and trash your belongings. 'Dialog' with cops is good for PR--nothing else.

Never underestimate the value of PR and striving for good relations. Also, check out the Oath Keepers, and Occupy in cities where the police refused to just follow orders, like Albany New York where they refused to arrest protesters.
