John McCain's health record has been under speculation throughout his campaign. Katie Couric speaks with Dr. Sanjay Gupta and Dr. Jon LaPook about the importance of presidential health. (CBSNews.com)
In the original video, the doctor says that McCain's wife (and presumably McCain's skin specialist too) checks to see if any melanomas have come back. That is NOT the point. Melanomas per se are not necessarily the cancers that kill outright in and of themselves. BUT they are insidious primary cancers that very frequently travel (metastasise) to the lymph glands/bones/brain/liver and THESE secondary/tertiary cancers are usually the ones that prove fatal.
In this case it was waived by the patient ie John McCain allowed media access to his medical records. One of the journalist also happens to be a doctor. He was not there in his capacity as a doctor but in his capacity as a journalist who happened to be a doctor.
in an article for Huffington Post, Dr. Gupta stated that there was something sadly ironic with the fact that physicians and airline pilots are required to release medical records, but not the would-be president of the United States.

Wow. 8 different doctors! Hope the HMO is not giving JMC some hard time! :0)
That S. Gupta amazes. He claims he's a doctor!
First, hasn't he heard about the Doctor-Patient confidentiality law?
Second, M. Moore asked for his opinion about health care for all. He said he thinks this system is not sustainable. Is he a fortune teller, a politician? As a doctor, he should have heard about the Oath of Hypocratus. Shame on you, Mr SG! Be a journalist and stop claiming u're a doctor.
not if he's running for president.
