  • "There was Louis, There was Bix, And there was me....." Nuff Said.

  • This is not a soundie! It's from 1935. It's a musical short. I posted the same video from the same VHS on my YouTube channel, in synch!

Does anyone know if this short is on DVD - and if yes, where to buy it?

  • The Song-O-Pators (Jack Wilcher, George Bacon, Russell Crowell) recorded with Red and his touring band in 1934.

  • Absolutely great. RED NICHOLS is a Jazz hero and one of the first, who had a real swing band. Most of the later great kings of swing learned from Red Nichols all what is needed to be succesful.

  • From the early 1930s until around the time of his death, jazz musicians and critics pretty well deprecated the works of Red Nichols. Worshiping upon the altar of Bix Beiderbecke, these well-meaning folks felt that Nichols' style was just not hot enough. Almost as soon as he passed from the scene, however, these same folks or their descendants suddenly proclaimed that Nichols was really good after all -- "he was playing soooo cool way back when!" Go figure.

  • Who are the singers?

  • i love red nichols & the five pennies too! thank you !
