Thanks - I saved this as a favorite. I've been looking for a slow video/explenation of this - none out thee that I can find. I notice a "pull back" on the second stoke? Gio does the same thing. Thanks again!!

Hey delucey, just to be clear if you want to get only 2 drums, get the conga and the tumba from LP vs the quinto and the conga.

hey davemeyler, what size are the heads on your LP Giovanni's? im interested in these LP series and not really sure which size would be ideal/what size i should get.

I play two congas and on tumbadora. If you talk to most congueros, salseros...they will tell you the LP quinto is too small for playing salsa. When playing 3 LP drums, it is better to get two congas and a tumbadora and tune them a 4th apart. If you watch giovanni or Raul Rico or any of these guys you will notice they play the conga, not the quinto, as their main drum so they can get a warmer open tone.

Wow - Could you explain how you do the doubles?

Basically you want to work on your heel toe technique on the top of the drum. After time you develop the skill to use this wrist action on the edge of the drum for tones/slaps/etc, getting 2 hits for each drop of your arm, one for the heel movement and again when your hand gets tilted forward in a toe movement. I will try to post a video explanation down the road. To see how it's really done check out giovanni hidalgo or anga on youtube
