i wish... there was abetter version of the beautiful song....i had it on LP man y years ago
i wonder about Jacks state of mind duringhtisd performance while there are man y great spots inhis vocals ..hes erratic and really mixes up the words...but such a pro he covers it= i love Jack.. hes my biggest music hero=and i wish i could hear another live version of this song.
I agree that Clapton is more boring and basic, except the vocals. Sometimes with Cream he would sound more jazz influenced and creative, including guitar feedback. Mick Taylor was the same, but played rock n roll songs with the Stones. Taylor approached playing jazz as playing better and more necessary, if that makes sense. Musicians all have some nice and interesting qualities.
I love Jack Bruce. He and Ginger Baker were willing to step out and follow their musical instincts into new sounds. Clapton stayed in the same place and was never as adventurous. I guess he's stayed true to his blues beginnings but Bruce and Baker went into more interesting and challenging realms. Not everything worked but they took chances. Because of that they never equaled Clapton's commercial success. I'll listen to a Bruce cd before a Clapton anytime. And BLT with Robin Trower kicked ass.
This song is stuck in my head. It makes me very happy and want 2 play with dynamics all the time. I'm a guitarist who has been inspired by Taylor, Bruce, and Clapton along with countless others. I'm ecstatic that this music exists and I have to learn and play it out sometime in my life.
you should read Jack bruce: Composing Himself (authorized biography). Jack didn't end this band, mick taylor did. JB loved this band, and was very hurt when it fell apart. Evryone in that book who has played w/ jack says they did their best work w/ him, and that he doesn't push people, he inspires them, but many can't take the heat.
How fantastic this is!The songwritng team intended with this group never materialized, all of this fantastic talent plus Peter Brown to do the lyrics.Yet sadly Jack has proven again and again to be his own worst enemy. How much better than this band are you going to do?
