Poor Guy! I was amazed how slowly these firefighters moved. The exceptionally long wait for fire to respond was almost 10 min. The Long Beach Police Arson Investigator was on scene before the FD....

Once the FD did arrive, the "low man on the totem" pole and his partner got the job of putting out this "inferno." As I stood and watched the owner of the truck was beside himself about this loss. His now decease father-in-law fully restored this truck several years ago. The father in law gave the truck to this gent just prior to his death.

It was unbelievable how slowly the fire crew reacted to saving this vehicle. It was astonishing to hear and see a superior firefighter direct the Rookies on the proper way to fight this fire.

The vehicle could have had the damage SEVERELY mitigated with a more aggressive and timely response from the professionals.

I fully appreciate the work our Public Safety professionals do and the service they provide. HOWEVER, should they be able to train at the loss of a fellow TAX PAYERS property???

  • Thanks Justin. Good points. It was really 9min from the time 911 was called and the arrival. I started recording when LE was concerned about the response.

Harleybum learn from Justin. His comments are articulate and very well stated.

  • Harleybum thanks for the comments. Maybe your knowledge would be taken more constructively if you refrain from child-like vulgarity. Everything you say is sadly discounted when you revert to our early mammalian IQ to toss such simple and profane language.

  • @tomjoebro i just watched this again...there was no reason to cut open the hood..the latch is on the outside..its all metal..and is 2 inches inside the top of the grill..and most of the fire was contained when he cut into it..not all firemen but i have seen alot of them get to [ gun ho] at fire's.i seen them smash and cut a truck apart and the fire was in the box and was out by the time the cut threw his hood and cut the battery cables..there was no need for that

  • @tomjoebro no kidding..but read my old post again..i said this truck has an outside hood release ..even though i am not a firemen ..i bet if i had their gloves on i could have opened the hood in actually 2 seconds ...i seen time and time again firemen cut and smash their way into something..i have watched a 67 chrysler 4door hard top burn..after the fire was out they pried and pried to open the doors..i said to him..why dont you just unlock it..he did..and the door opened easily

  • @390merc65 you're right, you are no firemen. firemen follow a simple rule when it comes to doors latches etc. "try before you pry", they used this and were unsuccessful. when fire burns through stuff, it tends to make things malfunction..

  • you called for the fire dept. and they showed up. they dont sit on the corner waiting for a fire to pop up, maybe they were out on another call. quit crying and be happy no one was hurt! trucks are replaceable

  • No more budget cuts for Public Service Departments. Some departments went from having 4 men/woman on a fire engine and another 4 on the ladder truck and two on the ambulance. to now only 3...... evern two on an Engine. I know if you travel up North you have 1 Firefighter per Engine responding. Now this Single firefighter has to decide on which apparatus to take Engine, Truck, Patrol and responds with 3 other Engines who also only carry 1 firefighter. Be lucky this was 3 firefighters....

  • One thing I would protest about if you would like to talk about tax payers money is to ask NOT to Furlough Public Service jobs. Firefighters and Police should be fully staffed with the proper personnel per population of the city. Most fire departments are not fully staffed as they should be for there population thanks to the Budget Cuts to Public Service Departments. We also responded to assist other counties and cities along with our own do to this, which delays responses too.

  • then place a breathing apparatus on due to the vehicle releasing hazardous chemicles this is called an IDLH atmosphere. now we can extinguish the fire. all in all the call can take rougly 5 to 10 minutes from the inital call to 911. Again sorry about the call but I am a firefighter, Firefighter Engineer and as part of "Our Family" of firefighters we take every incident serious. We do our best to weed out those who do not. LBFD is a great department and these guys did it all correctly.

  • After the tones go off then the firefighters have less then 1 min to get into there bunker gear and respond. Also not everyone is so kind to merge off to the side of the road when they hear the sirens. Then when the Engine gets on scene the Engineer has to place the apparatus into Pump. This envolves placing the parking brake on, switiching the transmission from road, to now drive the centrifical pump, get out set the chock blocks, and pull a 1 3/4 line double jacket to the vehicle
