Romans 6:3-6,"Know you not that so many of us as were baptised into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we should walk in newness of life." Baptism is an act of faith whereby the old man of sin is buried and the new Christian is born. Its were we contact the blood of Christ and are cleansed from our sins. Acts 22:16
do you remember that Jesus said not all who say Lord Lord well enter the kingdom of heaven? it is more then just calling on his name. "which is very important.
"only an act of obedience?" If ye keep my commandments ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in His love. John 15:8 I belong to the Church mentioned in Rom.16:16 which wears His name and does not wear the name of a manmade organization. The church is the bride of Christ and should wear His name. I Cor. 12:13 In Matt. 16:18 Christ calls it "His Church" not Luthers, the baptists, or anyone elses.
I am assuming by the comment you are a member of Alexander Campbells church. You see Baptism is only an act of obedience. We all should do it, but we cannot expect God not to save us if we don't. Romans 10:13 for all who calls on the name of the Lord Will be saved. When you call on the name of the Lord. That did it. You then are saved. God bless you and I will pray for you.
You pervert the Word of God. Can one be saved before their sins are washed away? Acts 22:16. Rom. 6:3-4 describes baptism as a being buried into Christ's death and then be raised up a to walk in newness of life. Baptism is the buriel of the old man of sin and the rebirth of a new Christian. Did Christ command baptism in Matt. 28:19 or suggest it? If commanded, can I be saved without it?
