The Houston Ship Channel's area-wide Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA), assembles fire fighting, rescue and first aid manpower and facilities among members to respond to emergencies. Each member of CIMA has its own in-house fire brigade and emergency response crew trained to handle most of its own emergencies and to aid others with manpower and equipment.

Every year, CIMA sponsors a major disaster drill, so participants come to know each other and complex actions become routine. Deschutes River Manufacturing was invited to bring The Rookie to the last drill, and the reception was overwhelming positive from these industrial fire fighting professionals.

  • "We have used the Rookie for the past three years during out annual NFPA hose test process The Rookie greatly increased our efficiency, quickly rolling both 1" and 1.5" wildland hose and 1.5", 2.5", and 3" structure hose. The Rookie has saved us hundreds of man-hours that were formerly spent hand-rolling over 50,000 feet of hose each year."

    Andy Louden

    Battalion Chief, Corvallis Fire Department

  • wow. those would make 4am fires a LOT nicer...

  • This particular video was shot at a massive multi-agency drill in the heart of the Houston petro-chemical industry. They closed highways for it. So, yes you're right there were some extra steps involved - rolling huge lays of hose, then loading it onto pickups to return to the staging area to be redecked. Not a typical firefighting scenario, but oil refinery and chemical plant fires aren't typical scenarios for most. Get your department to order a 30-day trial-you'll never hand roll hose again!
