Here's a video compilation of some of the robotic applications created by this year's introductory students. Nearly all of the video was filmed during normal classroom sessions of my course entitled "Computer Programming and Robotics". With one exception (the 4-wheel vehicle) all of these robots were built and coded by students with less than one year of experience.
My class meets four times each week (250 minutes each week) for a year. About 80% of the year is focused on robotics and microcontroller programming using the BasicX language. The final 20% is focused on desktop programming using the Visual Basic.NET language framework. Since BasicX is subset compatible with VB, the transition is a breeze!
Robodyssey Systems manufactures the Mouse robot and RAMB II motherboard you see here. The robot's brain is NetMedia's BX-24 microcontroller, which is programmed using the BasicX language. I am the author of the world's only BasicX textbook; if you are interested in learning how to program your own robot, see my website at www.basicxandrobotics.com.
Super! If you come by for a visit drop in and say hello. I teach on the main floor of the science building.
