  • She is a professional, of course, but legato and coloratura isn't high quality. Huge voice but lack a personal tone and much vibrato.

  • Are you serious? She lacks "personal tone" I know she isn't Caballe, but come on. This is one performance where everything clicks. She uses the size of her voice to the best effect possible. If you can't see how special this is, it is your loss for sure.

  • One word. Electrifying

  • Mille mercis à ColoraturFan de nous faire connaître cette admirable chanteuse qu'est Elinor Ross (honte à moi : je ne la connaissais pas). Extraordinaire interprétation. Parmi les meilleures.

  • As a former opera chorus member I had the pleasure of singing on stage several times with Elinor Ross. Being right there with her during rehearsals gave me huge respect for her both as an artist and an engaging personality. Try not to judge this performer from just a few videos. She could really "cut it".

  • Breath taking! Norma could not have been performed better by anyone.

  • I'd like to make another comment. I have heard Caballe and Sutherland a tad more now but they both pale in comparison to Elinor Ross. Caballe and Sutherland were lifeless and never committed to bringing life to their characters. I just don't care for that. Callas was a Heaven-sent actress who also sang amazingly. Ross is in my opinion the second Maria Callas, just as magnificent. What passion she has! This is the best Norma I've heard in years (and this is from years ago itself)

  • @Oneguin65 You´re DEAF!

  • @coloraturafan Definitely. It is his loss. She was fabulous. I didn´t know about this soprano. Excellent!

  • I admit to having never heard of Elinor Ross but this is an amazing Norma. Her voice is sublimely beautiful, strong, romantic, expressive. She is clearly also very committed to the character as she is Bellini's music. It is the perfect voice for Norma and she's just as brilliant as Callas, Sutherland & Caballe. She seems to be more like Caballe out of the three but she has a distinctly more forthright sound and secure high register. Simply amazing. It's a pity she's so underrated and unknown.

  • I do agree with Onegin65.... but the material is so wonderful, that, accompanied and guided by a good musician, conductor, repetiteur, she could have been very good indeed. I have the feeling that she at least tries to have a respectful reading of the score concerning dynamics and values. When you think the voices which sing Norma nowadays, little light soubrettes types of sopranos, deprived of true colour, this lady is more than simply "progressional". That voice and lots of hard work....

  • Wonderful performance! Thank you very much for sharing :)

  • I would kill to hear her Turandot! I bet it would knock out any of the wobbly dramatic sopranos of today.
