Selena watched him look at her for a couple seconds before he brought his arms forward in midair. "Oh," she said letting out a small laugh. "You mean here?" She took a step closer to him as she felt his arms slide around her lower waist.
"Yeah, well," he chuckled softly as his smile grew. "I doubt we'd fine much room in that mess." He pulled her closer to him as he looked at her.
She felt like melting right in the stop when he pulled her closer. Her body was brushing lightly against his and she hadn't experienced this feeling in a while. A sudden rush of adrenaline came through her and she felt like she needed to cry. But at the same time she was happy.
Nervous, but happy. Why was she feeling like this? She had a whole plan for trying to catch his attention throughout the night, but he caught her off guard. Maybe Amy had lied to her. How would she know anyway? She wasn't the one dancing with him. Then again, she was around him longer, so it didn't seem right for Selena to judge when she herself was the new girl.
She just realized she was avoiding looking into his eyes. Her gaze was on his shoulder, but blurred because she was deep in thought and trying to process what was going on. His voice pulled her out of her thoughts. "Where're you from?"
Again, she avoided looking at his eyes and turned to look at the people that were outside, merely a few feet away from them. "South Dakota."
"So you aren't used to the snow, right?" she saw the smile on his face from the corner of her eyes and this caused her to smile.
"No, unfortunately," she laughed.
"Yeah, I figured," he grinned. "I mean, it was pretty obvious that night you slipped."
This caused her smile to widen. "Hey!" She tilted her eyes and looked at his chin, avoiding to look into his eyes. "I didn't need your help, you know."
He let out a soft laugh and shook his head. "Oh, is that so?" She could sense a playful tone to his words.
"No, I'm lying..." she confessed, her laugh following his. "Thank you," she said as he pulled her closer. Thank god, she thought to herself. Now her head was directly on top of his shoulder and she wasn't forced to stare at those eyes of his. She wouldn't feel weird anymore.
They kept dancing for a while and she found out a lot about him, as he did about her. It was so easy for her to spill her past out to him, but this wasn't anything out of the ordinary. She told anyone when they asked. It was a thing she was working on fixing, but she wanted Justin to know. The memories of her mother leaving came back to her and all those things people had said about her in her past. It surprised her how easily she was opening up her heart tonight, but still, she wasn't telling him everything. And she knew he wasn't telling her everything either. But it really did astonish her how he told her anything at all. All she grasped when he was speaking was the fact that his dad had tried to commit suicide. Everything else was a blur and was forgotten. "That's why, I think friends are bullshit," he murmured to her.
She smiled slightly at him. "It's good to have a few close ones, maybe even one... you don't have a best friend?"
He shrugged. "That term doesn't really exist in my dictionary," he said, grinning. Selena caught that he ignored answering the question. She just pushed it aside a nodded. She looked to her left and still there was no sight of Amy. Her gaze moved onto the big countdown on the wall. There were about five minutes before the clock struck twelve. Before they entered into a New Year.
She didn't really understand people sometimes. You don't need a new year to change yourself. Change can happen anytime if you don't let procrastination get to you. And that was something she couldn't do... procrastination was her best friend. Then some other thought crept into her mind.

oh I live this so much! they have to kiss at midnight, but he should like just suddenly do it surprisingly and when they pull away he should whisper happy new year and then she'll finally look him in the eyes and whisper it back!! lol x) just a suggestion
