I did this video on how to set up an electric fence around your bee hives to keep bears out way back in the 80s but even today the system still works.

I had to cut out 3 minutes of the video to stay under the 10 minute requirement but there is still enough to left to get the idea.

  • I am posting this in three sections because of the limitations on characters per comment. There are some things that need to be considered when choosing the right attractant to use on the electric fence, but something must be used,

  • because there is a much higher possibility that the bear will simply walk through the fence without hardly getting a shock without it. For us we do not have the time to run around all the time putting honey or peanut butter on the wire, those things may work good but if there is a lot of rain you will be back out after every storm to replace them and they really attract the birds which will pick them off very quickly.

  • We have tried many things but find the bacon to be the longest lasting and it is hardly affected by the weather, that said, we do still have to add new every 2 to 3 months because it does dry up. After 35 years of experimenting this is what works best for us.

  • i also dissagree with Bacon... Peanut butter or honey works well. :)

  • I disagree with attracting bears with bacon in order to shock them. otherwise it was a good education video, thanks
