This is a condensed video of what it takes to run a live steam locomotive. This is an Accucraft Baldwin 4-4-0 replica of the Nevada County Grass Valley locomotive. The boiler takes much more water than is shown in this video. The runtime on a full tank of fuel is 30-40 minutes.

  • Although it has a brass bell & whistle they are not functional. It's kind of a coincidence that during one part of the video you will hear an actual train whistle off in the distance. There are some live steam models that have working whistles.

  • Cool thanks I want one of these but I wasn't sure how well it would talk my smallest curve of 8ft diameter. How do you like it with it not having a sight glass? I would want to add a goodall valve but it's risky with no sight glass.

  • @AkcentStryker This model has a sight glass.

  • What radius is your track there?

  • @AkcentStryker Those are LGB R3 curves.

  • My american 4-4-0 the same one requires warm water bath at least under25℃.Is your loco similar?

  • I just use tap water or the same distilled water that I'm running in the boiler.

  • God I wish I had the room for a g scale layout

  • Hey nice train! :3 Just wondering what's the steam oil for?

  • Well dome on the manual-control demo! Some miniature live-steam operators rig their locomotives with radio control for the throttle and reverser(/purge cocks).

  • How do you operate the bell and whistle on that train

  • This Is The Age Of The Train! Tnankyou for this great post.

  • does it have a water pump in the tender??

  • Hmm I didn't know about that. If you could, can u post a video of the contents in the cab and how you operate it?

    Thanks.

  • Really? Hmm I didn't know about that. If you could a video on the contents of the cab would be much appreciated

    Thanks.
