"Esti Ha'mechoeret" wasn't an adaptation of the Colombian novela "Yo soy Betty, la fea". It was an adaptation of the Mexican novela "El amor no es como lo pintan". Yes, "El amor no es como lo pintan" and "Esti" were probably inspired by "Betty la fea", but they were not authorized remakes. If they had been official adaptations, then the Colombian copyright holder for "Betty la fea", RCN, wouldn't have threatened to sue the Israeli producers for copyright infringement, which they did in 2003.
