Nadia - the original one

An attempt to compare both the versions of this song - Nadia by Jeff Beck performed at Monte Jazz Festival in 2001 and the original one as beautifully sung by Swati Natekar in the album "Beyond Skin" realeased September 13, 1999. Awesome awesome awesome tracks, both of them!

The main point of this video, however, is to present the original song.

Bhayein - they seem.

Then she sings, Mora Sainyaan, Bulaawei
Mora = My
Sainyaan = Lover
Bulaawei = is calling

Then she says - Sune Naahin... which means, Doesnt listen.

So the river is like the enemy that is separating the woman from her lover across the river .

Nadia (nud-ee-aa) means a lake.

Behna (verb), Behree (version of the word) means to flow.

Gayee (ga-yee) means "went" but here it means to imply it went on.

So Nadia Behree Gayee means the lake kept flowing (away).

At least that is what I think.

The original is beautiful. Here in the West we rarely hear singers who embrace microtonal music and few guitarists other than Jeff Beck who incorporate it into their style.
