It wasn't Rob and Fab that went to the media,it was Frank Farian.The reason was that Rob and Fab refused to cooperate with Farian after he reneged on his prmoise to let him sing on the next album.Since they insisted on singing,refusing to continue the lip synching, Farian went public. It's sad how some here are so hostile towards Rob and Fab, when they're just victims of a sleazy producer.Farian should've been crucified, not them.

Does it really make a difference whether or not they sang the songs?
They were there to perform, look good and dance while lip syncing...
Not many singers who record could actually sing...
They could make Tiny Tim sound like an opera singer with electronic enhancement...
They were great for what they were hired for....

Am I going crazy, or didn't Fab come out and say at the awards that year - "now maybe they'll let us sing on our own albums!" - words to that effect.
I don't care about who sang what, as long as they got credit, which the singers did on the second album. I loved this stuff back in the day.
