He seems to be missing the primary point of achieving a stop shot at a long distance, which is, that the cue ball still has to have enough backspin by the time it hits the object ball that it won't continue to follow the object ball.
That means that at a long distance you HAVE to hit the cue ball harder over a longer distance in order to ensure that it hasn't lost it's backspin by the time it hits the object ball.
You can't slow roll it, or shoot it lightly if you want it to stop.
