I understand that Defosco "Big Dee" Irwin, the superb soloist on this timeless gem, was a native New Yorker. Anyone know what part of New York he came from and where he learned to sing like this? Always loved his signature hit, "Been So Long" but preferred "So Far Away" for reasons even I have never understood. R.I.P., big guy.
Big Dee Irwin was born and raised in Harlem. Depending on what you read he was either 56 or 63 when he died in 1995.
