James Keogh, a volunteer in the International Brigade, was 22 years old when he was killed by Fascist forces at Calceite in Spain in 1938. On 25th November 2011, after a long campaign by Tameside TUC and his family, a Blue Plaque was unveiled at Ashton-under-Lyne library, where he had spent many hours studying. The speakers at the ceremoney include his nephew, Michael Harrison, and Secretary of Tameside TUC, Brian Bamford

  • Nice to see a cheerful plaque. It's always good to be reminded of just how many Bolsheviks Franco's men and all the brave Fascist volunteers managed to shoot and blow up!

  • "Killed by fascist forces", one less red stooge in the world. Pity Tameside can't find anything better to spend it's money on.

"They shall not pass" boasted the Reds...They passed!
