Galactic Journeys is a new series of videos that I'm creating to explore the wonders contained within an educational astronomy package, MPL3D Solar System ( version 1.1 ). Episode 1 takes us right to the heart of our galaxy ( The Milky Way ) and we spend some time in orbit around the large super massive black hole ( Sagittarius A star ) that resides there. In this video sequence you will notice the black hole itself is just a black sphere ( the point of no return or event horizon at the very edge of the hole ) with a large accretion disc of gases and star material being pulled in. As this material is being pulled in it is heated up and that's why this disc has the various colours. We pass through the disc itself and back out again to watch a captured star get pulled in, ripped apart and then swallowed by the black hole. At the end you will see the explosion caused by the the huge amount of star material being sucked in. The polar jets are then created as a result of this. To find out more about MPL3D Solar System, go to: http://www.mpl3d.com/ and go to their products section. By the way, I'm not the author of that software.

God damn space is just mind boggling. Very interesting though.

Thanks ! Have you seen the revised version ? Episode 1a ? Although shorter, it's a better edit. BTW, looking forward to version 1.2.
