Yep he was. Story for you... In Jan. of 1974 my father, a basketball coach and athlete in Cuba, sewed on a white T-shirt a blue # 58 to make the day more tolerable since the Vikings had lost the SB earlier in the day.Hilgenberg was one of my favorite Vikings. He did become a borna again Chirstian. I think the official cause of his passing is blunt head trauma...forgot the abbreviation. But it's a gradual deteriorationn of the brian beacuse of trauma to the head.
@6400az he was one of those guys you hated unless he was on your team. Later in his career became a born again christian.. Walter died a couple years ago of ALS..
At 0:03...I can't believe Robiskey did'nt suffer a serious leg injury here. Watch how Sutherland falls on his left calf. Could have been like the Theisman injury.
Vikings also started a rookie QB in this game. Tommy Kramer got the start over Bob Lee due to the comeback against San Fransisco Fran Tarkenton was out because he had broken a leg against Cincinnati in week 9.
Vin Scully was a terrific football announcer too. Alex Hawkins was a funny guy and a good color man.

@tknippe
He really was, very well spoken and educated man. Did some sports commentary before the Vikings game in Minneapolis.
I have read several times he was one of the meanest guys in the NFL.
