Together with IFAW, Eurogroup for Animals, International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and Humane Society International (HSI), GAIA organized an international demonstration against the seal hunt on 1 July 2008. The date was symbolic, since it marked the opening of the hunt in Namibia and the start of the French presidency of the EU. 1200 demonstrators from all over Europe, including Germany, Finland, France, Britain, Italy, Sweden, Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia, The Netherlands and Belgium protested in front of the European Commission. The demonstration was a powerful call to the European Commission to follow the example of Belgium (the first EU country to impose a ban, since 2007) and The Netherlands in banning the trade in seal-derived products. An EU-wide ban would without doubt signal the beginning of the end of this cruel hunt. More info: www.gaia.be

  • most people are only against the seal trade because they think baby seals are what is being killed. i support the seal trade.

  • @BranVam You support it because you suck f***ing horse sh*t!

  • wrong. The ban simply rejects ALL CANADIAN SEAL PRODUCTS regardless of HOW they were killed so stop deluding yourslef because you have lost!!!! The EU have spoken out and we are against you!!! DEAL WITH IT!!

  • of course we are in the top three moron and can you please explain why your sales fell massively because of BAD PUBLICITY even BEFORE THE BAN?? WELL??? sore loser thats all you are, cant bear the thought that the EU might actaully be against your torture of these animals.

  • So the EU, who is not even in our top 3 purchasers of seal products might impose a ban on a portion of our products. Somehow this is suppose to lead to a total collapse of the sealing industry? lol yeah right. Like I said previously EU supports Sealing and even provides subsidization to sealers

  • Perhaps some who do hunt kill in a cruel manner, but I for the record support Seal hunting. Hell even the EU has went on record and stated they support it as well and recent years Seal hunting has increased in EU countries. The so called ban is not actually a ban. EU Ambassador went on TV to clearly explain the ban will only pertain to products from cruel killing and not all seal products. Since most seals in Canada are killed in an accpetable manner, most will not be affected
