Lol what kind of complexity are you looking for? If being complex makes a good protagonist I guess Shinji Ikari is the best protagonist of all time.

@omegashenron8 Maybe he is, but of course this is not a foregone conclusion. I think Kenshin Himura would give him a run for his money. Also, I never said that psychological or ethical complexity is the ONLY thing that matters.

@uberhikari question for u, do u think goku is similar to luffy with the whole complexity issue? Cuz u said if u described luffy in a nutshell all he do is eat, sleep, fight, protect his friends, and wants to became pirate king(the last don't applied to goku). But that also described goku in a nutshell as well

@YokoElijah Yeah, I think Luffy and Goku are pretty much the same. However, Goku is definitely more intelligent than Luffy.

@ShikiFire i think the problem is that sometimes the fans in their blind admiration of something their enjoying will simply start claiming that the characters are complex when actually they aren't. now i agree that not every character in the show needs to be complex or serious but i do find it annoying that the fans will sometimes uncontrollably say and put forward shit thats not even close to the truth. i mean im i fan of bleach but there's nothing really deep about the characterization at all!

WHAT U GUYS SEEM TO BE ARGUING ABOUT WHEN IT ALL BOILS DOWN TO IS MAINSTREAM AND NON-MAINSTREAM, WHICH THE "BIG 3 R ALL MS". Mainstream is for the general aud right, then u have to take on the fact that its made frm SHonen which it needs to be not as complex cuz of the wide age group it has, Mainstream and Shonen target more of the younger aud young teens ya know, So they cnt make it like Death Note which is s mainstream non-mainstream manga ("THE BEST MANGA EVER") thats way it comes down to!

While I agree with almost everything he said in this video I highly disagree with his opinion that a character MUST have ethical complexity or physiological complexity in order to be considered a GOOD character. Not everything and everyone needs to be complex sometimes keeping it simple is the good choice. I don't understand why people feel most the time complex=good. tbh I would get bored of anime if every character tried to be super complex. Still though this was great intelligent video.
