The Confederate artillery never could find the range against the Union artillery. Thus the Confederate artillery shifted and fired on the Union infantry.
Jackson was not wounded by a spent bullet as there were no Union infantry in front of his brigade at that time. A piece of artillery most likely hit his finger.
Nobody was dressed in "Red Suits". Since the march was so hot, Union soldiers took off their jackets and had red shirts underneath it. The 1st Minnesota was one of those regiments and thus wearing red, produced the most casualties.
Anyone know who those union boys in red suits were? dismounted cavalry? Artilery men? im not rele sure, heavy infantry maybee? if anyone knows please let me know, i think they look kinda cool
the true tragedy is that both sides used ballbearing sized cannister shot against human beings at the closing ranges of being overwhelmed by the approaching enemy lines! euorpean inspired minie ball calibre weapons of .50 or more tore through american flesh on both sides....nothing could make european nations happier!!
You're right, it's just no director as of yet has been able to capture the true carnage of the Civil War. When we're damn there half starved while marching from Washington to Atlanta. Yet you see all these fat re-enactment guys. It would take men sometimes hours to die on the battlefield... you could hear screams. The amputees? Men getting shot close range with canister but no head explosions, ripped bodies and faces like the actual Civil War pictures. War is not glorious but this movie trys to.
It did make the European nations happy that mighty young America was ripping itself apart. Up until that time just before WWI, casualties during the Civil War were just unheard of. That's another reason Europe was playing bait and switch with the Confederacy. No one was willing to send their own armed forces to die in another's civil war just because of one commodity... Cotton. I hate this director. The was a very bloody tragic affair but necessary. Director tries to make war romantic, war is war
A digital cut would be better, divisions of starved troops eager to fight. These people were fighting with cannister and shrapnel.... Where are the missing limbs and mangled faces on the battle field? When they fight hand to hand it seems like there just pushing each other. I see cannon blowing at men right in front but no limbs are scattered? That's why re-enactments should not be attempted in a major budget movie. But Computer Graphics to capture the at least the essence of the Civil War.
