Good review. Try a climbers pack. I quit those bulky packs long ago. Evaluate every item to find the lightest option. Improvise to lighten - not only buy expensive. stonenstrop

so maybe what you'd want instead of those nylon straps with plastic cinches that keep slipping are leather buckles (like small belts with buckle holes) that can't slip.

Use the post office so you don't have to carry so much (such a large pack) ... mail it to yourself, general delivery, show an ID and they will hand it to you and restock your food pouch, just write on the package that you are a hiker and estimate the date of pickup... AT thru hikers trick...

Try a Deuter... mine is a big pack and only weighs 2.5 pounds... very very well made!!!!
