This slideshow presents the kitchen alcove we built last year, over the course of a day, with different light and life playing through it. Architecture is brought to life by the changes of light, hour to hour, day to day, week to week, always different and always beautiful. Space can and should be made to hold light light, and play with it, celebrate it, use it to enhance our experiences. I designed and built this bay with my friend Demetrius Gonzalez. The music was composed by Michael Galasso for the film "In The Mood for Love".

  • Demetrius and I worked very hard on all the little things. It is both surprising and reassuring to see that there are still people out there that recognize that...Many thanks!

  • @punkmechanicalkid - well i think that pretty much sums up what we were going for. well said, thanks.

  • Have you ever felt an overwhelming feeling of lucid awareness and being alive? Did you look around? Perhaps the architect consciously designed your surroundings to make you alive, you just didnt know it. That is great architecture, and I imagine this space, a small kitchen niche, has this ability.
