(dir. Yuan Zhang - 2006)
Starring: Dong Bowen, Ning Yuanyuan, Chen Manyuan, Zhao Rui, Li Xiaofeng
Based on the novel by Shuo Wang entitled 'Could Be Beautiful', 'Little Red Flowers' is a very beautiful and innocent story of childhood and this childhood is taking place in post-revolutionary China.
Qiang is taken to a state bording school when his parents state appointed jobs result in them being unable to take care of them properly; and his grandmother is unable to cope alone.
Initially this is a frightening experience for Qiang and he cries constantly to prove it. Subsequently, he discovers that the teachers in the school hand out little red flowers to those children who have behaved well and studied hard. He then makes it his mission to obtain at least one of these flowers for himself.
As it turns out despite the fact that the teachers and principal are fond of him, his rebellious nature creates a constant barrier between him and the paper flower.
In an attempt to make him behave as they wish, the school staff decree that no other child should speak to him; and they naturally obey this order causing confusion to the young boy.
Who will prevail, the establishment and Qiang's great desire to be rewarded with a little red flower, or his individuality?
