In April 2008, Brian Brunius, Jeanne Katz, and Deepa Awal drove from Santa Fe to Taos, New Mexico to tour the ancient Taos Pueblo, continuously inhabited for 1,000 years by the Tiwa-speaking Taos people of the northern pueblo tribes. A river runs through the pueblo, dividing the north and south complexes, and a large adobe church is in the center. -Brian Brunius

  • do any people live there?

  • @SCOOBYBLD This is a contentious topic. The reservation is very large, and many families live there. But in the historic section you see in this videos, very few people live there. Most families come to the old pueblo for festivals and holidays, but have more modern homes a short distance away.

  • I live there. :)

  • I visited there as a 14 year old in 1979 and purchased a turtle shell necklace from an old man living in one huts. At that time they sold various trinkets there.

  • The Pueblo revolt was centered in Taos; the soldiers came to retaliate against the people and the women and children hid in the old church and were killed there. There were no doors on the original buildings because of safety: ladders could be pulled up so that intruders/enemies could not access the homes and people.

  • Taos is a beautiful area of New Mexico.

  • people actually do live here, mirabal

  • Actually many people still live in the pueblo, but they have no running water or electricity. Certain families own certain parts and only the most devout live there.

  • looks awesome but a bit weary due to what happened in the past. No one lives there, but they keep it up. Thank you for sharing
