I'm glad you like the vid. It doesn't pretend to be any more than a home movie of a weekend of rural rail travel by some enthusiasts. The driver has since retired - he and his guard were very friendly, inviting us into the cab for what ended up being a few hours. I don't know how much longer this type of travel will be available in NSW - better take a ride while you can!

So typically rural Australian ! Great to hear the good old aussie voice from the driver and associate. This is what it's all about. Australia is still alive and well ... so refreshing!

You're welcome! You're right, Iowa, the Midwest, anywhere like that would look familiar. It's too bad that this train will disappear. It would be nice to think that another nice passenger train service would come along...

Thank you! I imagine that some of the scenery would look like parts of your country, maybe Iowa? This passenger train still operates, but just like in 2004 when this footage was shot, it only makes its outbound journey on a Saturday and its return on a Sunday. We all know that one day, this one-and-only passenger service on this line will disappear completely.
you know that 'grong grong' means 'very bad camping place'?

After analizing this video, I was trying to find the corner where a freight train derailed only a couple of years ago. Pretty sure it was just outside Grong Grong.. 8 or so carraiges tipped over spilling grain, due to the twisted railway tracks caused by extreme sun heat. I think

There's not that much footage of the Grong Grong area - only from 1:08 to 2:16 - with most of that being on the Narrandera side.
