  • These were the days to be railfanning!! Chessie paint schemes-and cabooses! Or, is that cabeese??

  • @tarmac2001 Most had been scrapped by 1985. They were painted with the "XXX" markings so that they would not be interchanged, because the receiving railroad would scrap them.

  • #3781 is now with the Indiana Southern RR.

  • How much longer would those hoppers marked "XXX" be used till? Very much they look like the 70 tonners that even steam power once pulled. In a world of bethgons the ability to see even a 100 ton 3 bay is getting harder to witness on the rails. Nice catch of an earlier time there.
