The Star Spangled Quilt, featured in Everyone Can Quilt, is made up of 6 blue and white pinwheel stars with red backgrounds. The red background is cut to show off the different sized stars; the blue borders for each block are used to make all the blocks the same size. White sashing strips make the quilt "pop".
Make the stars any size. Directions are given for making the stars smaller or larger by just cutting different width strips.
Kaye's technique make this an easy quilt to do. There are two 5-pointed stars, easily strip cut with the Starmaker 5 Master Template; two 6-pointed stars, cut with the Starmaker 6 Master Template; and two 8-pointed stars, cut with the Starmaker 8 Master Template. The outside edges of each star are faced with EZ Under, turned under and appliqued to a background fabric. This is a quilter's choice rather than piecing in the backgrounds on the different stars.
Piecing the stars together is made simple, following the steps for
anchoring your seams so the center of each star is always perfect.
When necessary, she shows you how to pin to match seams. Just follow step-by-step and your stars will be great.
