A collection of all the dresses worn by Winona Ryder who's brilliant performance as Mina Murray / Harker was enhanced by the amazing costume designs by Japanese designer Eiko Ishioka.

Eiko's costumes are highly symbolic, and are a reinterpretation of original Victorian dresses. Mina's character starts off in cold, blue dresses with plant motifs. She then wears green when meeting Dracula, although still wearing a leafy dress. Throughout the film there are lots of hints towards sexual awakening, blossoms and buds. When Mina dances with Dracula in one of the key scenes, her dress looks like a red rose.

In the final scenes Mina looks like Morgan Le Fey, a possessed and haunted woman who seems to have stepped right out of a pre-raphaelite painting.

Hats off to Ishioka-san who's work rightfully earned her an Academy Award for best costume design for Bram Stoker's Dracula!

The beautiful score was composed by Wojciech Kilar, who's pieces "Love Eternal" and "Ascension" were used for this presentation. Purchasing the full score for this amazing film is definitely worth the money!

  • In love with period dramas ^^ one of the main reasons include the costumes

  • i want the blue and green dresses! gorgeous! love this movie

  • I love the red gown. The power-blue one is my second favorite.

  • Her dresses are beautiful, but very inaccurate. In 1897, in London, a the bustle had almost died out, and instead women wore a smaller and barely noticeable bustle. Plus, large leg of mutton sleeves were popular. The dresses Winona Ryder wore are more suited for the mid-1880s.

  • These costumes reflect the true genius of Eiko Ishioka. I truly hope they have been saved to be exhibited in a museum for generations to awe, and inspire.

  • I will say though I definately give credit to Ishioka. While some like Lucy's wedding dress for example were a little funny for the scenes they were in, they look simply amazing. She made something original, classical, and theatrical all at once. Same goes for the make-up team and Roman Coppola's in-camera effects. To call them brilliant is an understatement. I always did like older clothing more especially 30's-40's styles. There was a more respectable and classy look than the kind you see now.

  • I wouldn't exactly call her performance "brilliant". It's probably one of her lesser roles until The Dilemna in my opinion (though I must say after Gary Oldman and Tom Waits she was the best actor to a mostly mis-cast grooup of supporting actors). It's not really all her fault, I like her alot otherwise and she can even almost save something like Alien Resurrection, but I never liked the way Mina acts in this movie or Winona's attempted accent. But I love the movie all the same.

  • lovely dresses, pretty lady- crap acting : /

  • I claim the RED ONE!:]

  • I'd like to wear one of those dresses :D . And I want to see Winona in more films!!!

She's amazing! One of the best actresses of her generation. I can't forget her performance in this film. And she's also incredibly good in Little Women, Girl Interrupted and The Age of Innocence
