Noting that hundreds of Montanans have already signed up as citizen cosponsors of his Forest Jobs and Recreation Act, Senator Jon Tester today told his colleagues Montana is buzzing with excitement about the bill.
Tester highlighted his new legislation during a speech on the Senate floor, saying it will create forest and timber-related jobs, protect clean water and safeguard some of Montanas best hunting and fishing habitat for future generations.
This bill wont just help restore our forests and their watersheds, it will help restore our communities, Tester said.
All a giant fib.
10,000 acres a year when 300,000 acres a year of beetle kill; and 300,000 acres a year on average of wildfire? That's so pathetic.
How about having some logging for ten years so we can get a handle on the bugs and fires, and if that works, AND we still have a forestry sector -- THEN maybe let's talk about wilderness.
Right now this bill just moves the goalposts. Mills that signed onto this have been sued into complete submission, and now they'll throw anyone else under the bus.

Thank you Senator Tester for preserving wilderness areas AND protecting forest industry jobs in Montana! You are a true American hero. We hope to apply similar principles in the near future for the Allegheny National Forest -- Pennsylvania's only national forest. Please put in a good word for both wilderness and loggers with your colleagues Arlen Specter and Bob Casey.

As a mill owner in Montana all i can say is more Wilderness just adds to the problem. We have bowed to these special intrest groups and stoped forest managment thats why were where we are at now.Just wait all timber sales will be in court and stoped in their tracks.
NO MORE LOCKED UP LANDS.

Thanks so much for this bill, Tester! This is the first time that all parties came together to work FOR the forests. In my area in York, MT alone, we have seen a dramatic increase in beetle killed trees in just about every area in the Helena National Forest. I think this is a common sense bill that takes a resource that is widely available due to beetle kill and USES this wood. This bill is just plain smart and needs to be passed.
