Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul became the first filmmaker from Southeast Asia to win the coveted top prize, the Palme d'Or, at the Cannes Film Festival 2010. His film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives is a gentle, meditative piece about death and reincarnation, and has received nothing but praise from the critics. But the humble filmmaker says it's okay to fall asleep during his film.
