  • The last match that Brian Moore commentated on was the England 5-1 Germany game.

  • No it wasn't - he actually died that day.

The last match he commentated on was the 1998 World Cup Final in Paris.

  • What a legend Brian Moore was. R.I.P. Spot on that ITV should repeat The Big Match Revisited. Seeing this and all the old Match Of The Day on ESPN Classic makes you realise how good football was then.

  • What was the first thing the Iranian hostages asked after being released from captivity after 444 days?

Has Birtles scored for Manchester Uited yet?

  • this was in the days when you could watch live football for nothing now you have to pay to sky or espn to watch live premiership football

  • That classic LWT intro brings back so many memories of loved ones no longer around all watch TV together.

  • this was a classic football theme dont get them like this anymore.

  • granada soccer night elton welsby

  • Brian Moore was the best commentator of them all. He just said enough & let the game breathe instead of being a motormouth like the Motson brigade.

  • Does anyone know if this theme were used by a program in the US, possibly on PBS? It sounds strangely familiar?

  • Amazing 'graphics' for the period. Go well with the music - which of course the other ITV companies used for each of their versions of "The Big Match" but with varying title sequences. I think the problem with modern TV graphics is that there's so much on the screen, none of it actually sinks in. Perceptibility and directness were the aim of the game in the 70s/80s, not "brand image", "market positioning" and "creative execution". It worked.

  • Brian Moore is the greatest commentator ever.

Whenever I hear any of his calls, it brings back great memories of Italia '90, USA '94, as well as countless European/English Premier matches from the 90's.....
