  • Let's say you don't find a bird's nest handy. What would you suggest as the medium for getting the initial fire lit?

  • a white fluffy rabbit ;p.

As said it is just a term used to describe it, nothing more. It is easy to describe it to a person learning as a "birds nest" as that is what it will look like if done right. Basically it is nothing more than dried grass's or similar dry vegetation crushed and rolled up. Think cotton ball. When fluffed up like shown in the movie it will catch fire pretty fast!

  • Ah, I get it. If you're not an expert and ask a question, you can expect sarcasm?

I appreciate the vids and will continue watching them. I won't make the mistake of asking another question.

  • Sorry that you feel that folks were giving you a hard time. No one is an expert here, we just share our experiences for viewers to learn from us. There is a big difference between being rude and sarcastic and adding some humor to things. Read what you asked...besides me saying a fluffy rabbit as a joke, The rest of the comment was made/geared to HELPING you understand what a birds nest was and to answer your question. Thanks for watching,

    Bob

  • 58 degrees? Be Happy. That's warm to me. I have a high of 23 degrees and it gets down to 4 degrees at night. But cool video anyway. I never saw a fire started with a striker alone. Most of the time I see guys use like a fuel tablet or some crap.

  • oh we were happy trust me LOL. It was about 25-28f that night. Not as bad as what others have but 2 days before it was 78....thx for watching

  • Always practice.

My son and I lit up our fire pit this weekend with a Ferrocerium rod. Hit caught the link on like the third stroke. We lit a Vaseline cotton ball with it and then the kindling.

  • @delta69alpha I cant believe somebody would actually take it that way, your answer was very informative and yes you added a little humour not sarcasm.

I would say this is just about the best video on the subject I have seen, thanks for the great advice :)

  • yeeaah baby

  • If you don't like the Wet Tinder in the compartment, what you can always do is put Dryer Lint in there, or other things like charcloth or cotton balls. Even paper will do.

The Strike Force is a magnificent tool for fire!

  • that was quick for hay stuff, 3 flicks. not for me.
