Four students from Springfield College's School of Human Services joined together to form a group project to address the educational issues confronted in our communities, especially within the Latino population. Latino youths represent the highest percentage of drop out students among all other races. Researchers have found that the lack of parental involvement is a major factor contributing to this issue. Some educators feel that parents do not value education or care about their child's education. The truth is that Latino parents face many barriers, including language barriers, lack of available resources, educators not understanding our culture. Both Latino parents and students feel that college is the way to succeed. In fact, more than 89% of Latino youths reporter that college is important yet only 1/2 of them proceed to college. There are many, many available resources that can help Latino youths have a successful college experience.

La Diferencia pledges to advocate and continue to fight in order to address this issue in the hopes of bridging the educational gap among the Latino population.
