Deadline extended to July 21
to win a new 3G iPhone, iPods and more

Prizes include iPhone, iPods and iTunes music for sharing your transit experience with a video on YouTube.

Instead of paying record gas prices, residents are jumping on buses in Orange County thanks to complimentary bus passes for new riders. The all-day pass for an Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) bus is available online at the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Web site at www.octa.net.

OCTA also invites riders to share their stories of using public transit as part of the "Dump the Pump" program. Riders are encouraged to create short videos describing their experience and share them on the popular video Web site YouTube.com.

Creators of selected clips will receive prizes such as an iPhone, iPod and iTunes music, and their stories will be featured on the OCTA.net Web site -- reaching more than 1 million viewers per month.

Dump the Pump week was June 16 to June 20, and video submissions are due by 8 a.m. July 21 for consideration. Videos should be no more than four minutes long.

Entries should be submitted online to YouTube.com with "Orange County Dump the Pump" as a title.

  • People requested more time to post their videos because the three-day notice was simply too short. The deadline was extended to three weeks to allow people time to share their experiences in the videos.

Extra points will be given to the two entries submitted within the previous deadline. These first two videos are terrific ... it's a great start, so keep them coming.

Remember, there are five prizes: one new iPhone G3 (grand prize), two iPods and two $50 gift certificates for iTunes music.

  • Be sure to check out my entry! I posted it as a video response but it may not go through in time! Thanks!!

  • Brilliant idea to address gas prices!

  • That's generous, considering the video/notice has been up for 6 days, not 3 days. With so many requests for a deadline extension I guess we should expect to see a plethora of videos! That's good. I actually enjoyed Dump the Pump week and took advantage of the free bus pass to get to my job in Fullerton. Fist time on the bus. Before that I was going to start riding my bike.

  • we're supposed to put it as a video response???? you didn't say that!

  • I see the deadline has been extended, after the contest was supposed to be over. So OCTA didn't like the videos submitted, so they said "Oh well, let's try again." Does anyone know if this is legal? Can they do that? It's not really fair to those that submitted their videos, on time, under the original RULES. Yet another shady move by a government agency!

  • I can't believe these gas prices. My paycheck is going to gas. It's horrible.

No one post a video so I can get a new iphone.

  • haha, i was sitting right next to her in that bus. It was on the 53 in front of octa store.

  • Win some iTunes? Isn't iTunes free? I assume they mean win iTunes gift cards?
