R/Me Solo Trap Stygian Veil Hard mode - No EW

As of Jan. 5, 2012, this build is no longer working effectively. There is not enough damage in this build to overcome the increased health granted to foes in hard mode in this update. However, if you take a 16 Beast Mastery Edge of Extinction on a hero, you may be able to use this build. Original video description follows.

This is a solo trap build for Veil in Hard mode without Energizing Wind. You can take out the first two waves with this. The hero is only along for a res.

Are you still able to do this after all the recent updates? I can't pull it off anymore, but I don't know if that's because I'm a bit rusty from lack of playing, or if Anet nerfed it.

@squibb77 Yes, this still works over 3 years later! I suggest practicing more. The key to this farm is gathering all the Stygians in one clump. Go to the Isle of Nameless with your traps to see their area of effect, and trap at the radius of your trap's range from the stone wall so your traps cover as wide a range as possible. Another thing you can try is reserving a Barbed Trap at the end to drop if a few of them ignore the spirit or manage to make it past the traps for whatever reason.

@Maxxer011: Now you know why I bring a hero with a res. You can change the build to use Trapper's Speed instead of Serpent's Quickness and keep a Barbed Trap in reserve for the pull. If any Hunger(s) break off to chase you, you may have time to drop the trap and cripple them so you may escape. The timing and execution will vary slightly from that of this video if you use Trapper's Speed.

I tried this build out for the first time today (yes, I know, 2 years late to the party) - I'm unable to get them to ball correctly using the location shown in your video, but comparatively I had near perfect success when using the eastern wall. Just thought I'd point that out o.O the angle of the east wall seems to be sharper and make them converge better.

can you tell me what I'm doing wrong? I put all your traps just like you do in the video, I hot the equipment everything, but when I'm done trapping and aggro them , some of them get to die, some pull back, and one always stays alive and keeps chasing me. Am I aggroing the wrong hunger or bad trap position? I trap them identicly as you do.

Cool, I stopped playing for quite a while, andI was just checking what rangers could still do after the update to how aggro broke, which I discovered in Rekoff's cave, much to my dismay. We still have a few options, and props for the epic Xenosaga music.
