Many board games are available on computers these days and thus benefit from automated rule checking and other advantages. Nevertheless they lack the gaming experience of their analog predecessors. Missing the haptic and social components board games on computers aren't very successful.Treasure Bay addresses these problems and shows how future board games could benefit from computers while still retaining the feeling of classical games. This is accomplished by moving tangible pieces on a multitouch table.
Based on elemental game concepts like Ludo, in Treasure Bay the players compete in a race to the center of the board. To win the game they have to cross moving bridges, use items to their advantage and avoid hidden traps.
Treasure Bay unifies analog and digital board games to demonstrate the potential that lies within their combination. Future projects may go further along this road and develop totally new board game experiences.
