Driving around Moscow, Idaho in my Ford Expedition in 4x4, treading the melting snow. Almost got stuck in a side-ride that had deep slush and was on a steep incline.

We had a huge snowfall in the last few days, and then a thaw, so it made driving treacherous.

  • Nice video. What make of camera did you use, and how did you attach it to the vehicle?

Does your Expedition have four-wheel electronic traction control (simulates front and rear differential locks, by way of ABS "break locking" any spinning wheels)? It came bundled with AdvanceTrac electronic stability control (ESC) which was optional on 2003-2006 Expeditions. Its now standard on 2007-present Expedition 4x4s.

  • @TorqueTransfer I used an ContourHD in a water-proof casing with a suction-cup mount.

I'm not sure if the car as ESC. It's a 2006. How would I be able to tell?

  • @foucachon I posted a photo of the camera in the description

  • Theres an on off button on the dash next to the cup holders. If its a 2006 its a safe bet it has it. and 300hp

  • Even when AdvanceTrac ESC and RSC were disabled, the four-wheel electronic traction control would continue to function, even in 4LOW (lock) mode. As the traction control system can "brake lock" any of the four wheels to simulate front and rear differential locks, a Expedition 4x4 can move forward or reverse with only one drive wheel getting traction. Also a Expedition 4x4 can move forward or reverse with two of it's drive wheels (say one front wheel and one rear wheel) off the ground (airborne).

  • AdvanceTrac electronic stability control (ESC) was around a $600 option extra. No many second generation Expeditions were fitted with it. For 2005, roll stability control (RSC) was added, becoming AdvanceTrac ESC with RSC.

If your Expedition has this option, there will be a button on the center console to disable the ESC and RSC systems (if you go off road, for example). There would also be a badge on the rear liftgate that reads "AdvanceTrac / RSC".
